Job Summary And Qualifications

Provides education, planning and support regarding patient specific plan of care. This person serves as a first point of contact for care at the Heart and Spine hospital which includes but is not limited to education regarding their care and/or procedural services plan. Follows through on patients’ needs through coordination of services during PAT.

• Perform direct patient care within the scope of the Registered Nurse Practice Act, with emphasis on the in‑patient and out‑patient Day Surgery service line.
• Perform pre‑op patient calls to drive patient education and overall satisfaction.
• Complete patient pre‑operative testing.
• Perform Point of Care Testing and lab draws as needed for pre‑operative testing.
• Use therapeutic communication in daily practice.
• Maintain a safe and therapeutic pre‑operative environment.
• Implement and direct care, using the nursing process with emphasis on the needs of individual Day Surgery patients.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of the nursing process.
• Provide emotional support to the patient and significant others to make informed choices regarding healthcare.
• Delegate tasks to the appropriate caregiver.
• Participate in Day Surgery specific initiatives and process improvement.
• Provide training of PAT nurse responsibilities and processes to new employees, such as patient care assistants, vocational nurses, nurse technicians, RN residents and/or nurse externs.
• Maintain high quality (age specific) care for patients, as assigned.
• Support the mission, vision and values of the organization.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.
• If hired after 6/1/12, BSN required within 24 months of hire into RN position.
• Adult Acute care experience at least one year; procedural or care navigation experience preferred.
• Current RN license in the State of Texas or compact license.
• Current AHA or ARC BLS provider.
• Current AHA or ARC ACLS provider required within one year of hire or transfer.
