Charge Nurse Registered Nurse (RN)

The Charge Nurse Registered Nurse (RN) functions as a frontline leader within VA North Texas Health Care System (VANTHCS) and maintains responsibility for the operations of the nursing unit over a specific time period. The Charge Nurse demonstrates leadership in the application of the nursing process as it relates to clinical practice, teaching, leading staff, managing operational processes, and ensuring that patient needs are met.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Responsible and accountable for providing competent, evidence-based nursing care and for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.
• Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates care using the nursing process and administers medications and procedures in accordance with established policies and guidelines.
• Works collaboratively with the nurse manager in clinical and administrative duties, including delegating unit and patient care responsibilities and holding others accountable for providing safe patient care.
• Collaborates with other health care and service providers to deliver safe, effective, patient-centered care and influence care outcomes.
• Assists the unit with meeting VANTHCS organizational goals and values by setting the tone for the unit and establishing an appropriate work environment.
• Considers patient and family needs while assessing the skills, personalities, and strengths of staff to support safe and effective care delivery.
• Provides and reevaluates a flexible staffing plan to meet shift needs and support unit operations.
• Assists in directing nursing education, orientation, competencies, quality improvement activities, and outcomes utilization, as appropriate to the setting.
• Supports an environment that promotes professional development, teamwork, communication, and collaboration among members of the interdisciplinary team.
• Participates in and supports evidence-based practice, performance improvement activities, and initiatives that improve quality of care, resource utilization, and patient outcomes.

Pay:
Competitive salary, regular salary increases, potential for performance awards
