Position: Nurse Practitioner Critical Care ICU Nocturnist (Denton, TX)

Overview

Critical Care / ICU Focus – Provide high-acuity care in an inpatient ICU setting. Nocturnist Schedule – Monday–Friday, 7:00 PM – 3:00 AM (No call required). Manageable Patient Load – Average ~12 patients per shift.

Responsibilities
  • Diverse Clinical Responsibilities:
    Inpatient rounding (new & established patients), hospital consults, pre/post-operative care, in-basket management.
  • Procedural Opportunities – Perform central lines and arterial lines.
  • Structured Mentorship Program – 12–18 month transition support with supervising physician; formal onboarding, training milestones, and peer mentorship.
  • Supportive Care Team – Work alongside RNs and dedicated department support staff.
  • Essential Tasks – Assess patients, order and interpret diagnostics, prescribe and manage therapies, develop treatment plans, counsel patients and families, maintain records, and initiate timely referrals as needed. May conduct hospital rounds, assist with admissions and discharges, and provide on-call support.
Qualifications
  • Preferred Experience – Minimum of one year of Advanced Practice Provider experience in an Acute Care, Critical Care, or ICU setting.
  • Required Certifications – ACLS, BLS, DEA. Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) within 30 days of hire or transfer.
  • Licensure – Texas RN licensure or RN licensure with compact privilege;
    Texas APRN; current license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in Texas. Certification from an accredited board as an APRN for the patient population of focus.

The NP Intensivist Medicine is a licensed, certified, non-physician healthcare provider. They provide direct patient care and have prescriptive authority. They are credentialed, privileged, and billed as independent providers by Medicare and Medicaid. The Advanced Practice Provider offers medical care based on the supervising physician s scope of practice. Intensivist Medicine providers work in critical care settings. They manage patients by rounding, performing procedures, and handling hospital admissions and discharges.

The Role
  • Assesses the physical and mental condition of patients by performing and obtaining comprehensive or problem-focused physical examinations and medical histories.
  • Orders, collects, interprets, and evaluates laboratory and other diagnostic tests to assess patient problems and health care needs.
  • Prescribes or recommends medical drug therapies or related treatments. Performs procedures following approved protocols with attention to efficacy, safety, and cost. Recommends interventions to change behavior linked to health risks.
  • Formulates and implements comprehensive patient treatment plans based on assessments, evidence-based medicine, and standards of care. Collaborates with physicians and team members when appropriate. Evaluates patient s response to health care and the effectiveness of care.
  • Counsels patients and families about medical processes, illness management, medication, nutrition, and health promotion. Counsels patients about drug regimens and possible side effects or interactions with food supplements, over-the-counter medications, and herbal remedies.
  • Maintains appropriate records detailing the patient s treatment plans and outcomes. Initiates timely consultation and referral when the problem exceeds scope of practice or expertise.
