JOB SUMMARY

The Registered Nurse in the Multi-Specialty ICU (MSICU) provides comprehensive, patient-centered care to critically ill medical and cardiac patients in a high-acuity intensive care environment. This unit cares for patients with complex conditions such as sepsis, renal and liver failure, pulmonary hypertension, GI bleeding, multi-organ dysfunction, heart failure, STEMI, NSTEMI, and post-cardiac catheterization needs. Working collaboratively with the physicians and interdisciplinary teams, the RN utilizes advanced critical care therapies and technologies, including CRRT, Impella and intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) support, Swan-Ganz catheter management, and heart and lung transplant evaluations.

This role offers the opportunity to develop specialized critical care expertise while delivering exceptional care to a diverse and complex patient population.

Education

Graduate of an approved/accredited nursing program

  • Experience
    One (1) year of experience working as a registered nurse (RN) in a critical care or intensive care unit (ICU)
License and Certifications

Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Texas Board of Nursing or with a multistate license from Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) state
BLS/ACLS accredited by the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross (ARC)
NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification

Preferred Education

Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN)

  • Experience
    Three (3) or more year of experience working as a registered nurse (RN) in a high acuity critical care or intensive care unit (ICU)
  • License and Certifications
    Licensed RN with CCRN (Critical Care Registered Nurse) Certification (In addition to required certifications)
JOB DUTIES
  • Performs and accurately documents physical, psychosocial, and emotional assessments. All assessments take into consideration age specific criteria (children, adolescents, adults and older adults).
  • Actively anticipates patients and/or patient's family needs and expectations and utilizes these in conjunction with the assessment to develop an appropriate plan of care for the patient. Utilizes critical thinking skills in planning and prioritizing nursing care. Maintains and utilizes competencies per unit expectation.
  • Identifies and implements appropriate nursing interventions based on the completed assessment. Completes accurate and timely documentation of these interventions. Active coordinator of the interdisciplinary plan of care. Confers with all members of the health care team in a collaborative fashion. Shares information and observations of the patient and/or patient's family in a manner that advocates for optimal patient care.
