JOB SUMMARY

UT Southwestern is actively seeking a skilled Cage Wash Technician to join our Animal Resource Center (ARC) team. We are looking for someone dependable and detail‑oriented; experience with following safety procedures, ability to handle physical tasks, maintain accurate records, and work efficiently in a fast‑paced laboratory environment.

As Cage Wash Technician
, you will be responsible for operating cage wash and autoclave equipment, maintaining high sanitation standards, processing animal caging, performing housekeeping duties, and supporting daily facility operations in a laboratory setting. This role works under constant supervision to provide care and maintenance of laboratory animals and animal facilities.

Work Location: Dallas Campus; may be asked to assist other laboratories in other buildings on campus.

Shift Requirement: Day shift opportunities; may require other shift and weekend availability. Shift requirement to be discussed during interview.

Preferred

  • High School Diploma, High School graduation or GED
JOB DUTIES
  • Comply with and wear required personal protective equipment.
  • Operate cage washing and processing equipment, perform appropriate start‑up and shut‑down procedures, clean and monitor equipment throughout the day, and report equipment failures to the supervisor. Maintain high quality sanitization and recognize the facility's equipment needs.
  • Operate and maintain autoclave equipment, report equipment failures, and keep autoclave log books. Evaluate and prepare extra equipment and deliver sterile equipment to appropriate storage rooms.
  • Process animal caging through the cagewash equipment. Add appropriate bedding and enrichment to animal caging. Examine equipment for cracks or malfunctioned parts, reject unclean or broken equipment.
  • Clean and maintain multiple support areas (storage rooms, restrooms, break rooms, and procedure rooms) as well as main hallways. Utilize appropriate techniques and chemicals to ensure sanitization of all surfaces.
  • Accurately request, sort, and organize routine supplies to meet area needs. Provide supply requests in a timely manner to supervisor.
  • Apply appropriate techniques and chemicals to maintain facility floors. Routinely sweep and mop using floor machines to remove buildup of wax and debris.
  • Follow appropriate safety procedures.
  • Perform housekeeping duties and laundry. Keep machines cleaned and well‑maintained.
  • Maintain required attendance level and adherence to set work schedule in accordance with required staffing levels to ensure that assigned duties are completed. Ability to work weekends as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
