Job Summary and Qualifications
Complex Specimen Processor PRN - Microbiology
Job Responsibilities- Be responsible for the management and handling of inbound and outbound samples, including tracking, accessioning/registration, sample preparation and processing, for in‑house testing or submission to third parties.
- Ensure positive patient identification in the handling, plating and labeling of samples and slides.
- Perform test order entry procedures with accuracy and in a timely manner.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of specimen collection, culture set‑up, storage, transport and testing requirements as well as specimen rejection criteria.
- Prepare, label and handle laboratory specimens according to established policies and procedures based on specimen type and testing ordered.
- Prepare and receive (batches) samples for courier pick‑up and include any special instructions.
- Perform clerical duties such as answering and making telephone calls, communicating test results, typing and data entry, sample retrieval, filing paperwork and slides, faxing documents and assisting with supply inventory.
- High School Diploma required.
- Associate’s Degree preferred.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting preferred.
- Knowledge of laboratory methods as well as specimen collection, culture set‑up, storage, transport and testing requirements based on tests requested or ordered.
- Excellent communication skills and effective teamwork.
- Ability to organize work according to priority.
