Quality Assurance Engineer

Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Quality Assurance Engineer for a forward-thinking technology organization building sophisticated, high-impact financial software. Initially, this position is onsite in Dallas, TX, and then moves to hybrid after initial onboarding period.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Quality Assurance Engineer will serve as the primary owner of product quality, combining hands-on manual, exploratory testing with test automation to ensure complex financial workflows are accurate, reliable, and production-ready. This role partners closely with engineers to uncover root causes, validate calculations, and approve changes before release. Over time, this individual will grow from executive to influence, a trusted voice shaping quality standards, testing strategy, and product reliability.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Own quality for critical financial workflows including policy lifecycle operations, calculations, commissions, and compliance rules
• Perform manual and deep exploratory testing to uncover high-impact defects and edge cases
• Test, quality-assure, and approve tickets prior to production release
• Review incoming tickets to ensure clarity, completeness, and testability
• Write, maintain, and extend automated tests using Playwright
• Validate financial data, reports, and calculations using logical analysis and data tools
• Participate in design reviews and planning sessions, constructively challenging assumptions

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum 5+ years of QA or Quality Engineering experience
• Strong hands-on manual and exploratory testing experience for complex web applications
• Experience maintaining and expanding automation with tools such as Playwright, (highly preferred) Cypress, or Selenium
• Comfort working with financial or accounting concepts and calculations
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills - very analytical mindset!
• Experience with API testing tools (e.g., Postman or REST clients)
• Any experience reading code with either PHP or Laravel - is a huge plus.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

This role offers a competitive base salary around $115,000 - $125,000 annually, with flexibility based on experience and overall fit.
