Job DescriptionThe Metrology Engineer develops, validates, and optimizes dimensional inspection programs for advanced metrology platforms, with a strong focus on aerospace manufacturing. This role establishes standardized measurement practices, leads measurement system validation, and drives continuous improvement in automation and cycle time. The position also provides technical leadership in metrology methods, documentation, and training to ensure consistent, accurate, and repeatable inspection processes across the site.
Responsibilities- Develop, validate, and optimize dimensional inspection programs across Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and blue light / structured light platforms.
- Establish standardized programming practices, including part setup and staging, datum alignment methods, and consistent reporting formats.
- Perform Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R) studies to validate automated inspection programs and confirm measurement system capability.
- Design and create fixturing setups that support repeatable, efficient, and stable inspection programs.
- Troubleshoot and perform root‑cause and corrective action (RCCA) for programming and measurement system issues affecting inspection quality or throughput.
- Develop and maintain standard work instructions, training materials, and troubleshooting documentation to ensure knowledge retention and consistent measurement processes.
- Train and mentor personnel on the operation of metrology equipment, inspection programs, and standardized measurement practices.
- Review and approve automated program packages, including programs, setup documentation, and GR&R studies, ensuring compliance with standard work and established best practices.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to brainstorm and support continuous improvement initiatives focused on increasing automation and reducing inspection cycle time.
- Assist in the technical evaluation, selection, and implementation of new metrology technologies and tools.
- Investigate and document measurement non‑conformances, ensuring clear communication of findings and recommended corrective actions.
- Document best practices and troubleshooting guides to support effective knowledge transfer and long‑term sustainability of metrology processes.

- Proven experience performing Repeatability and Reproducibility (GR&R) studies for automated inspection programs.
- Hands‑on experience developing CMM inspection programs on ZEISS PRISMO using Calypso software and/or Renishaw Agility using Modus and/or Poly Works.
- Experience developing blue light / structured light inspection programs using ZEISS INSPECT (GOM) on systems such as ZEISS scanners and/or T‑SCAN Hawk 2, as well as KEYENCE VL and/or VR systems.
- Ability to systematically investigate and clearly document measurement non‑conformances.
- Demonstrated ability to create and maintain best‑practice documentation, standard work, and troubleshooting guides to support knowledge transfer.
- Familiarity with aerospace quality systems and standards, including ISO
9001 and AS9100. - Experience working in aerospace or defense manufacturing or metrology environments is strongly preferred.
Skills & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent (such as a G.E.D.) or vocational/technical education in a related discipline with 8+ years of relevant experience in aerospace metrology and CMM inspection within regulated quality environments.
- Or a bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math (STEM) discipline with 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Comfort working with advanced metrology platforms, including ZEISS PRISMO, Renishaw Agility, ZEISS INSPECT (GOM), T‑SCAN Hawk 2, and KEYENCE VL/VR systems.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills applied to measurement systems and process improvement.
