Research Scientist – Immunology and Musculoskeletal Biology

Job Summary

Plans, coordinates, directs, and participates in the work of research projects in Immunology and/or Musculoskeletal Biology within the Levi Laboratory, Division of Burn, Trauma, Acute and Critical Care Surgery.

• Participate in experimental design, data collection, and data analysis.
• Conduct routine molecular bench work and animal model procedures, including injections, surgeries, and sample collection.
• Perform downstream processing such as histology, immunofluorescence, confocal imaging, flow cytometry, cell culture, single‑cell and bulk RNA sequencing.
• Supervise laboratory personnel (students, technicians, advanced degree holders), developing and refining research protocols.
• Prepare data for grant writing and manuscript preparation.
• Assist in developing new experimental approaches to achieve research goals.
• Plan, organize, coordinate, and personally execute research projects, setting goals and selecting key personnel.
• Review and analyze experimental data, revising techniques as necessary.
• Write and submit research results; assist in preparation of reports, abstracts, and publications.
• Design, develop, or adapt equipment for experiments to obtain desired results.
• Plan and supervise training of technicians and other laboratory personnel, ensuring proper laboratory techniques and safety procedures.
• Supervise a group of employees of lower grade engaged in technical and professional work, ranging from routine to complex laboratory tasks.
• Confer with industrial, governmental, or other groups regarding progress or results of research projects.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Education:
  
  PhD with major coursework in a relevant field; or Master’s Degree with major coursework; or Bachelor’s Degree with major coursework.
• Experience:
  • 5 years of research experience with a PhD, including 2 years at the level of Senior Research Associate or equivalent.
  • 7 years of research experience with a Master’s degree, including 3 years at the level of Senior Research Associate or equivalent.
  • 9 years of research experience with a Bachelor’s degree, including 4 years at the level of Senior Research Associate or equivalent.
