Research Scientist, Research Assistant/Associate, Clinical Research
Job Summary
Supports research efforts directed toward developing treatments for genetic pediatric disorders with significant unmet medical needs. The incumbent will conduct independent research and contribute to multiple ongoing projects, including maintaining transgenic mouse colonies, performing routine colony management tasks such as genotyping, and supporting experimental studies involving mouse models. Additional duties include performing molecular biology and cell-based assays, plasmid cloning and preparation, and producing adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors.
Prior experience with rodent handling and injections is strongly preferred, and experience with molecular biology techniques, gene therapy research, viral vector production, or mammalian cell culture will be considered a strong asset.
- Plan, coordinate, and direct research activities in propitious projects or major units of large research projects for which the incumbent is particularly qualified in terms of extensive training and/or experience.
- Maintain and manage transgenic mouse colonies, including routine colony management tasks such as genotyping and supporting experimental studies involving mouse models.
- Perform molecular biology and cell-based assays, plasmid cloning and preparation, and produce adeno-associated virus (AAV) vectors.
- Support experimental procedures related to in vivo studies and other rodent handling tasks.
- Plan and supervise training of technical personnel and other laboratory staff in proper laboratory techniques, equipment use, and safety procedures.
- Review and analyze research data, revise techniques or approaches as needed, and compile, write, and submit research results to supervisors.
- Prepare or assist in preparing manuscripts, reports, and abstracts for publication as co‑author.
- Design, develop, or adapt equipment used in experiments or research to achieve desired results.
- Supervise a group of employees engaged in technical and professional work, from routine to complex laboratory tasks.
- Collaborate with industrial, governmental, or other organizations regarding progress or results of research projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Plan, organizes, coordinates, directs, and personally participates in assigned scientific or medical research projects. Selects or assists in selection of key research personnel. Determines specific goals or objectives to be attained. Assigns and reviews work of subordinates. Plans experimental protocols.
- Reviews and analyzes resulting research data. Revises techniques or approaches to work problems as indicated necessary by research data.
- Compiles, writes, and submits research results to supervisor. Prepares or assists in preparation of research papers, reports, and abstracts for publication as one of co‑authors.
- Designs, develops, or adapts equipment used in experiments or research to obtain desired results.
- Plans and supervises training of technicians and other laboratory personnel with respect to proper laboratory techniques, use of laboratory equipment, and safety procedures.
- Supervises group of employees of lower grade engaged in performance of technical and professional work, which vary from routine to complex laboratory work tasks.
- May confer with industrial, governmental, or other groups concerning progress or results of research project.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Education:
PhD with major coursework in the field of assignment; or Master’s Degree with major coursework in the field of assignment; or Bachelor’s Degree with major coursework in the field of assignment. - Experience:
5 years of research experience in the field of assignment with PhD, including 2 years at the level of Senior Research Associate or its equivalent; or 7 years of research experience in the field of assignment with Master’s degree, including 3 years at the level of Senior Research Associate or its equivalent; or 9 years of research experience in the field of assignment with Bachelor’s degree, including 4 years at the level of Senior Research Associate or its equivalent.
