Post-Doctoral Research Associate

Job Summary

The Brain Circuits Laboratory, led by Drs. Steven Small and Ana Solodkin, seeks a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist to contribute to precision network neurology research. The focus will be on how medical and lifestyle risk factors influence brain aging, utilizing advanced brain imaging, dynamic functional connectivity, and network modeling.

Location

Dallas, TX – Department of Neuroscience, School of Behavioral and Brain Sciences, The University of Texas at Dallas (UT Dallas). The lab is located on the UT Southwestern Medical Center campus.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and conduct clinical research studies in precision neurology.
  • Interpret data and build dynamic network characterizations.
  • Write first‑author scientific articles.
  • Supervise graduate and undergraduate student researchers.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. in a related field. Candidates who have completed all Ph.D. requirements but whose degree has not yet been formally conferred may begin employment only upon submission of a letter certifying completion and expected conferral date.
  • Appointment is contingent upon formal conferral of the Ph.D.
Preferred

Education and Experience
  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Cognitive Neuroscience, Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, or related areas.
  • At least two first‑author publications in high‑impact, peer‑reviewed journals.
  • Strong background in human neuroscience, including computational and statistical methods.
  • Experience with neuroimaging software tools and MRI data acquisition.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Basic knowledge in systems and/or cognitive neuroscience.
  • Knowledge of brain imaging analysis methods.
  • Knowledge of multivariate statistics and/or digital signal processing.
  • Fluency with the Unix operating system and shell scripting.
  • Fluency with scientific programming in Python, R, and/or MATLAB.
  • Creative thinking skills and a predisposition for problem solving.
  • Command of literature in neurobiology of language, memory, and/or neurodegeneration.
  • Strong collaborative abilities and kindness.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong proficiency in English, both written and verbal.
Additional Information
  • Remote Work: After a probationary period, a partial hybrid schedule may be offered, contingent on business needs and manager approval. Candidates must reside within the Dallas‑Fort Worth area and be able to report to campus on short notice.
  • Travel: Occasional local travel for assessments, participant needs, training, and conferences may be required.
