Position: Research Assistant I, Internal Medicine

About the Role

Research Assistant I in the Cardiovascular Immunology Laboratory of Dr. Laurel Y. Lee, Department of Medicine. The position focuses on basic and translational research to understand immune‑mediated mechanisms underlying vascular disorders, improving prevention of heart attack and stroke.

Job Summary

Provides technical assistance in a general research environment, supporting the principal investigator and other lab members on ongoing projects. Responsibilities include advanced science experiments, mouse colony maintenance, data recording, literature review, publication support, lab operations, and potential supervision of junior personnel.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced experiments in molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry, chemistry, and related fields.
  • Maintain and organize mouse colonies and conduct mouse experiments per protocol.
  • Record scientific data in a lab notebook and review with supervisor.
  • Review literature and consult with supervisor for new procedure implementation.
  • Assist in preparation of scientific publications.
  • Support lab operations: ordering reagents, maintaining laboratory areas and equipment.
  • Provide supervisory support to lower‑grade research personnel as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Master’s Degree with coursework in a related field (no experience required) OR Bachelor’s Degree with relevant coursework OR 2 years college coursework OR High School Diploma/GED.
  • Experience:

    1 year Research Technician level with Bachelor's OR 4 years including 2 years as Research Technician OR 6 years with High School Diploma/GED including 2 years as Research Technician.
