The Embryology Scientist will spearhead groundbreaking research on techniques of embryo manipulation in non-model organisms.
This role works with talented reproductive biologists to continue to develop, implement, and maintain strategic plans of the embryology department. This position reports to the Director of Assisted Reproduction.
This position is based out of Dallas, TX and relocation assistance is available within the US.
Duties and Responsibilities:- Develop protocols for the in vitro production of embryos in mice, livestock, and a variety of novel, wildlife species.
- Production of embryos with edited genomes using a advanced ART including zygote microinjection, production of chimeras with ESC injection, and SCNT
- Derivation of embryonic stem cells, including development and optimization of protocols, from IVF, SCNT, and interspecies SCNT embryos.
- Collaborate with species and cell engineering teams to develop strategies for efficient production of embryos and offspring with desired gene alterations.
- Stay up to date on relevant literature, identify novel protocols/procedures that may be applicable for Colossal projects, and conduct associated experiments to continuously improve results.
- Maintain stable embryo development rates and troubleshoot protocols as needed.
- Some traveling required for training and implementing novel assisted reproductive technologies into non-model organisms
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong expertise in gamete, embryo, and/or stem cell biology.
- In vitro oocyte maturation, fertilization, embryo culture, nuclear transfer, and cryopreservation. Experience with multiple species, including non-traditional (wildlife) models preferred.
- Derivation and maintenance of embryonic stem cells, including extended culture, blastocyst microsurgery, and morphological, immunostaining, and molecular evaluation of viability and pluripotency.
- Strong communication skills (written/verbal)
- Ability to work independently, with members of the Embryology team, and members of other teams, as needed.
- At least three years of experience in the generation of genetically engineered model organisms (e.g., nuclear transfer, pronuclear and cytoplasmic injections of one-cell zygotes, electroporation of embryos, and/or ES cell injections blastocysts)
- Ph.D. or D.V.M. in biological sciences, veterinary medicine, bioengineering, molecular biology, genetics, or related field.
- Two years of post-doctoral experience.
- Demonstrated track-record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
