Job Summary

We are seeking a Scientist II to join the Surfaces and Materials Analysis Lab, specializing in trace and ultratrace metal analysis using ICP-MS and HR‑ICP‑MS. The role requires experience in metal analysis, acid handling, complex sample preparation, ICP‑MS method development, statistical analysis, and method uncertainty determination. Experience with laser ablation ICP‑MS is highly desirable.

Job Description
  • Manage large projects
  • Provide technical support to chemists and non‑managerial direction
  • Perform analysis and research with minimal supervision
  • Develop practical and robust analytical methods for chemicals and materials used in the semiconductor and high‑tech industries
  • Investigate customer issues, including contamination concerns
  • Maintain optimum laboratory instrument performance and feedback into preventive maintenance programs
  • Perform routine and non‑routine analyses and data interpretation
  • Prepare analytical reports and communicate results to customers
  • Publish and promote new analytical capabilities research findings in industry journals and trade magazines and present new developments at national and international conferences
  • Support customer projects, including MDL studies and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Train laboratory staff to ensure new method implementation
  • Understand the immediate and strategic needs of the customer for new analysis procedures
  • Work with managers and laboratory teams to ensure smooth workflow and customer satisfaction
  • Work with sales and marketing to promote new offerings by writing data sheets and presenting results at customers’ sites
  • Work safely at all times and ensure a safety culture and a safe working environment in the laboratory
Skills Required
  • Experience in metal analysis
  • Experience with acid handling and complex sample preparation
  • Experience developing analytical methods using ICP‑MS
  • Strong background in statistical analysis and method uncertainty determination
  • Previous experience with laser ablation ICP‑MS is highly desirable
  • Ability to perform analysis and research with minimum supervision
  • Must possess strong communication skills: verbal and written
  • Ability to work with others as a team
  • Highly organized, disciplined, and goal‑oriented
  • Possess a good work ethic and know how to get things done
  • Ability to work under pressure
  • Possess good personal time management skills
  • Possess a good understanding of process flow in an analytical laboratory
  • Understand industrial processes and be business savvy
Education/Training/Certifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related science with 15+ years of experience
  • Master's degree in Chemistry or a related science with 7+ years of experience
  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or a related science with 2–5 years of experience
Additional Requirements
  • Must be able to pass a drug screening and criminal background check
  • Possible travel to California may be required during training
Pay Rate/Salary
  • $52.00–$56.00/hr compensation will be offered within this posted range based on experience, skills, and market factors
