Job Function

To maintain pricing, stocking, and rotation of merchandise in the grocery area and to perform other functions as required in Produce, Point-of-Sale, and Receiving, in an efficient manner within company policy, to ensure that the shift contributes to the financial best interest of the store.

Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

A. General

Observe all store rules and company policies;

Maintain a neat, well-groomed personal appearance at all times and observe company dress regulations;

Observe shift operating hours at all times as scheduled or assigned by store manager;

Adhere to all local, state and federal health and civil code regulations;

Assist in receiving and unloading of merchandise; check and verify grocery receivings to ensure that items listed on vendor invoices are all delivered; check products for quality, count, and condition;

Take stock to storage or shelf areas;

Open cartons and price items accurately and legibly; keep store management informed of pricing problem areas or discrepancies;

Assist in ordering and maintaining inventory control;

Handle damaged and spoiled products according to company policy and assist in controlling the level of damaged goods;

Comply fully with all safety policies and procedures and participate in store's Safety Committee;

Assist customers in retrieving items from inaccessible areas or in obtaining products that are either located in warehouses or that they may have difficulty in handling;

Assist in training personnel when assigned;

Control excessive use of utilities and water and observe sound conservation practices;

Be knowledgeable and able to perform all duties of a checker;

Perform other duties and assignments as directed;

Greet all customers and provide them with prompt and courteous service or assistance.

B. Bookkeeping

Record all shift hours worked on time card according to company policy and verify by signature the accuracy of all time worked;

Verify all customer IDs presented and observe store policies pertaining to the acceptance of checks and the sale of alcoholic beverages;

Notify manager promptly of any irregularities or discrepancies in the operating results of the applicable work shift for cash variations exceeding $3.00 (or the level that has been established by management for your particular store or location);

Use correct pricing as listed in the store's Pricing Guide and ensure that all merchandise is properly priced;

Ring all sales into cash register in accordance with Company cash handling procedures;

Be familiar with invoice documents and confirm accuracy of item descriptions, sizes, quantities and pricing during grocery vendor product deliveries;

Record invoice documents accurately on the receiving log and place signed invoice in the designated secured area;

Accurately record markups and markdowns, in-store use of merchandise, voids, refunds and bad merchandise/spoilage write-offs in accordance with company policies.

C. Merchandising

Keep refrigerated coolers, store shelves and other displays fully stocked and faced at all times according to tag allocation or department standards;

Assist in building store displays for maximum sales and turnover; display merchandise in a neat and colorful manner;

Keep perishable merchandise rotated in accordance with store policy and product code dates and pull all out-of-code merchandise;

Follow approved procedures for receiving product, price marking and restocking to ensure quality protection, accuracy and product rotation;

Order merchandise and maintain inventory control to minimize out-of-stocks and over-stocks and to maximize sales and turnover;

Present (face) all products in assigned sections in accordance with company policy prior to leaving at the end of scheduled shift.

D. Maintenance

Maintain general housekeeping and sanitation standards in compliance with store policy and state and local health regulations on a regular, ongoing basis;

Assist in keeping all checkout, sales and storage areas clean, clear and in good order;

Sweep floors during store hours and respond promptly to emergencies or potential safety hazards such as spills and broken glass or plastic containers that contain liquid products;

Use and maintain equipment in good working order including all safeguards and safety devices or mechanisms;

Immediately advise department manager of any maintenance or equipment problems.

E. Security

Adhere to company policy pertaining to excessive cash in registers and request cash pickups in accordance with such policy;

Observe security standards by staying alert and being aware of customer actions and behavior; report to manager or security any abnormal behavior;

Secure register prior to leaving a register unattended; protect company assets at all times.

F. Personnel

Maintain a cooperative and harmonious working relationship with co-workers and supervisors; avoid social or personal involvements that affect performance.
