What Your Day Will Look Like:

As an Environmental Planner / Environmental Scientist (Natural Resources Field Lead), you will play a critical role in delivering field-driven, sustainable solutions across a diverse portfolio of projects. This position blends planning and scientific expertise, with a strong emphasis on leading field efforts, collecting environmental data, and supporting NEPA compliance.

You will serve as a field-oriented technical lead, supporting and guiding environmental studies for projects across transportation, energy, utilities, and land development sectors. Your work will include field investigations, environmental documentation, and technical reporting that directly inform project planning, permitting, and regulatory compliance.

You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical, data-driven solutions, balancing environmental stewardship with responsible development. This role offers the opportunity to contribute across the full project lifecycle, from early site assessments and field surveys through environmental review and permitting, while maintaining a strong connection to fieldwork and real‑world conditions.

What You’ll Do:
  • Serve as a Natural Resources Field Lead, planning and conducting field investigations such as habitat assessments, wetland delineations, and environmental reconnaissance.
  • Lead and support NEPA documentation, including Categorical Exclusions (CEs), Environmental Assessments (EAs), and Environmental Impact Statements (EISs).
  • Conduct and coordinate field data collection, including biological, ecological, and environmental resource surveys, ensuring accuracy and regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare technical reports, environmental documentation, and permitting support materials based on field findings and regulatory requirements.
  • Evaluate environmental constraints and opportunities for projects in transportation, energy, utilities, and land development sectors.
  • Collaborate closely with planners, engineers, scientists, and project managers to integrate environmental considerations into project design and execution.
  • Coordinate with regulatory agencies and clients to support permitting and environmental compliance efforts.
  • Assist in developing strategies to avoid, minimize, or mitigate environmental impacts.
  • Contribute to public involvement and stakeholder coordination, as needed, supporting transparent and informed decision‑making.
  • Support business development efforts, including technical input to proposals (RFPs/RFQs) and scope development.
What You’ll Need:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Planning, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience in environmental planning, environmental science, or natural resources work.
  • Demonstrated experience with fieldwork and environmental data collection, with the ability to operate independently or lead small field teams.
  • Working knowledge of NEPA processes and environmental regulations, with experience supporting or preparing CE, EA, or EIS documentation.
  • Experience across multiple sectors preferred, including energy, utilities, transportation, and/or land development.
  • Strong technical writing skills with experience preparing environmental reports and documentation.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and perform fieldwork in varying conditions.
  • Effective communication, organizational, and teamwork skills, with the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams and engage with clients and agencies.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly conduct fieldwork, which may include walking over uneven terrain, standing for extended periods, and working in varying weather conditions. Duties may also involve lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling up to 35 lbs., as well as operating a company vehicle.
