Program in Memory Longevity

The Program in Memory Longevity, led by Attila Losonczy, MD, PhD, in the Peter O'Donnell Jr. Brain Institute (OBI) and the Department of Neuroscience at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, seeks applications for a tenure‑track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. This search aims to advance our understanding of memory and its disruption in aging and disease.

Areas

of Recruitment

We seek exceptional experimentalists using innovative cellular, molecular, or genetic approaches to investigate memory mechanisms in the mammalian brain. Applicants whose research connects synaptic biology to learning and memory, or to aging- or Alzheimer’s-related memory dysfunction, are of particular interest.

About the Program

The Program in Memory Longevity is a signature initiative of the O'Donnell Brain Institute focused on understanding and protecting memory across the lifespan. Anchored by a deeply integrative and collaborative approach, the program aims to define the cellular and circuit mechanisms of memory and how they are perturbed in aging and neurodegenerative disease. New faculty will join a growing community of investigators across disciplines, working at the forefront of memory research.

Resources

and Environment
  • Generous start-up packages and laboratory space in the new O'Donnell Biomedical Research Building
  • Advanced imaging and data analysis resources, including two-photon and light-sheet microscopy, STED, spatial transcriptomics (Xenium and Merscope), cryo-EM, and high-performance computing
  • Human neuroscience infrastructure, including academic neurosurgeons providing access to human brain recordings and tissue, magnetoencephalography (MEG), high-density EEG, and focused ultrasound for blood-brain barrier modulation and lesioning
  • Extensive cross-campus collaboration, spanning more than a dozen departments and centers, including Neuroscience, Cell Biology, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, and the Center for Alzheimer’s and Neurodegenerative Diseases
  • OBI programs supporting high-risk/high-reward neuroscience (Visionary Neuroscience Program), trainee development (Sprouts Program, Neural Scientist Training Program, Travel Grant Program), and multidisciplinary Research Interest Groups.
Qualifications

Candidates must hold a Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D. in neuroscience, engineering, computer science, biology, physics, or a related discipline. A record of research excellence and a compelling vision for future work are essential. Clinical faculty must be eligible for a Texas medical license.
