Public Safety Screener – Building Security

Provides security and protection for Dallas County employees and visitors across all Dallas County buildings. Uses devices such as walk‑through metal detectors, handheld metal detectors, and x‑ray technology to prevent dangerous or prohibited items from entering County buildings. Maintains a high level of awareness of visitors and remains alert for any unusual circumstances or suspicious conditions.

• Perform screener duties on County property and assist in controlling access. Take necessary action to prevent injury and loss of property, and report all circumstances to the immediate supervisor.
• Operate x‑ray machines and metal detectors to screen the public before allowing access. Ensure the screening area is physically clean and tidy.
• Communicate instructions to individuals, show situational awareness, strong communication skills, and good judgment when deciding who or what may need additional screening. Act with courtesy and respect, and write detailed incident reports.
• Use handheld radios, telephone, and other devices to convey information.
• Follow instructions from law‑enforcement officers with minimal supervision.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED from an accredited program.

• Valid Texas driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Meet minimum mental and physical standards.
• Knowledge and proficiency in safeguarding entry points and county infrastructures.
• Mandatory physical exam and drug testing prior to employment; subject to random testing during employment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, keen observation, effective decision‑making, sound professional judgment, and teamwork.
• Ability to communicate appropriately and follow directions.

• Binocular vision correctable to 20/30.
• Ability to discriminate between standard colors.
• Capable of hearing ordinary conversation at ten feet in each ear; hearing aid permissible.
