Position Description (What you will do)
Hockaday is seeking an experienced security officer to join a team of professionals responsible for ensuring the security of The Hockaday School campus and its students, employees, visitors, and property through the effective execution of established policies and procedures.
Security- Conduct regular patrols of the premises, including interior and exterior areas, to detect and deter any suspicious activities or security breaches
- Lock and unlock interior and exterior doors on campus as necessary
- Verify the identity of individuals entering the premises, ensuring that only authorized personnel and visitors are granted access
- Provide physical security at building and gate entrances through established protocols
- Provide friendly and professional assistance to employees, visitors, and vendors, addressing inquiries, providing directions, and offering support as needed
- Perform s of parents, visitors, or vendors by utilizing the RAPTOR system
- Utilize security cameras and monitoring systems to observe and report any unusual or unauthorized behavior and/or person(s)
- Write incident reports, answer phones, use radio equipment
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of security incidents, observations, and any action taken, and prepare written reports as required
- Coordinate with other security personnel, law enforcement agencies, and emergency responders as necessary to address security concerns and maintain a safe environment
- Respond promptly to emergency situations, such as medical emergencies, fires, or security incidents, and take appropriate action to mitigate risks and ensure the safety of all individuals
- Set up traffic cones to facilitate the flow (ingress/egress) of traffic, in accordance with the Traffic Management Plan, for carpools and special events
- Deliver mail, packages, and copy paper as required, intra‑campus
- Monitor the campus for environmental hazards, illegal activities, and vandalism; report or take corrective action as required by school policy
- Assist with traffic flow during student drop‑off and pickup periods and other traffic control as needed
- Conduct interviews when necessary to gather information: in person/by phone
- Remain up to date in CPR, AED, and Basic first aid certifications and tourniquet training
- Report security and/or general maintenance problems to the proper authorities
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
- Adhere to policies related to boundaries with students
- Attend required abuse risk management training
- Report suspicious and inappropriate behaviors
- Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- No prior experience necessary, training will be provided
- Basic understanding and ability to use computers and technology including Microsoft Windows and Office products, basic office equipment and mechanical equipment
- Well‑developed interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment, including students, co‑workers, parents, alumnae, volunteers, trustees, and the public
- Adaptability, honesty, self‑reliance, teamwork, dependability, flexibility, willingness to listen and learn, work ethic, determination, persistence, problem‑solving skills and congeniality are essential
- Must have the ability to work in a school environment through satisfactory completion of all legally required and School‑required background and screening checks and verifications, including criminal and sex offender background checks.
