Public Safety Officer, University Police – (260000B2)

As a Public Safety Officer, you will provide critical services and information to students, staff, faculty, and visitors on campus while working within our supported police department. For those applicants who may be interested in a career in law enforcement, this entry-level position allows you to safeguard the people, resources and infrastructure at UT Southwestern while growing your criminal justice background.

Starting salary is $20.00 per hour. PSOs at UT Southwestern are assigned to the following shifts:

  • 6:45 AM to 3:15 PM
  • 2:45 PM to 11:15 PM
  • 10:45 PM to 7:15 AM
Education and Experience

Required

Education – High School Diploma or equivalent (high school, vocational school).

Experience

No experience required.

Must successfully pass a thorough background investigation.

Must be able to provide credible testimony in a court of law.

All offers of employment are contingent upon a verified negative drug screen.

Licenses and Certifications

Must possess a valid driver's license and be eligible to drive a University owned and/or leased motor vehicle.

Job Duties
  • Patrol buildings and grounds by foot and vehicle to check for fires, water leaks, potential security and safety hazards and general building security, reporting all irregularities, emergencies, or suspicious activity.
  • Promptly provide emergency medical first aid and/or request other related medical services as needed.
  • Support the crime prevention and safety mission on campus.
  • Process found property and write reports.
  • Provide security escort services, as needed.
  • Respond to a variety of alarms and assist in conducting testing of emergency notification devices.
  • Maintain traffic and crowd control for special events.
  • Lock and unlock campus buildings and work areas.
  • Provide customer service to the UT Southwestern community in whatever manner possible in public safety related problems and issues.
  • Assist police and fire personnel, as needed.
  • Required to participate in on‑going, job‑related training and developmental activities to stay abreast of current activities.
  • Provide on‑the‑job training to co‑workers, as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Security

This position is security‑sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code 51.215, which authorizes UT Southwestern to obtain criminal history record information.
