Job DescriptionPRIMARY
PURPOSE:
Under the guidance and supervision of the Director of Campus Safety and Security, the Security Officer is responsible for helping to provide a secure school environment to ensure the safety and welfare of students, employees, and visitors while on campus.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certifications
- (a) High School Diploma or GED.
- (b) CPR training preferred or willingness to become certified.
- (c) Must possess a valid (Class
C) driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record. - (d) Active Level III License for Commissioned Security Officer through the Texas Department of Public Safety.
- (e) Complete all training requirements set forth by the State of Texas to maintain a Level III Government Letter of Authority Security Officer License through the Texas Department of Public Safety.
- (f) Pass minimum firearm standards set by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
- (g) Purchase approved gun, ammunition, and holster.
- (a) Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedure manuals.
- (b) Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
- (c) Ability and/or willingness to learn to use and understand all written communication to effectively communicate with employees, administration, and the Board.
- (d) Ability to remain calm in high-pressure or emergency situations.
- (e) Familiarity with basic first aid and emergency procedures.
- (f) Ability to effectively work with students and staff with diverse backgrounds.
- (g) Ability to apply common sense, problem-solving, and mediation skills, and a mature attitude to a variety of situations.
- (h) Ability to communicate with people in a professional manner.
- (i) Ability to make quick and sound judgments in a fast-paced environment.
Knowledge & Skills
- (a) Monitors and reviews TBP buildings, parking lots, and surrounding area security camera footage and alarm systems to detect and address potential threats.
- (b) Performs regular door checks to ensure that all interior and exterior doors and gates are closed and locked and in proper working order.
- (c) Maintains a high level of visibility to deter unsafe and/or illegal behavior by monitoring arrival and dismissal, lunch supervision, hallways and common areas, and patrolling campus grounds and parking lots.
- (d) Intervenes and uses force when the threat of imminent serious bodily injury or death exists to any person.
- (e) Assists administration with unruly community members. Remains calm in potentially volatile situations to diffuse confrontational situations between students or others.
- (f) Report any inappropriate activities or unauthorized persons on or around campus to appropriate personnel. Escort individuals off campus, if necessary, due to safety concerns or violations.
- (g) Responds immediately to reports of drugs, weapons, or other emergencies/disturbances in the school. Notify administration and law enforcement as appropriate.
- (h) Assists administration or public officials in emergency situations as needed.
- (i) Monitors Safe Zone alerts by campus staff and responds via Omni Guard.
- (j) Collaborates with the Director of Campus Safety and campus administration to develop, monitor, and implement a school safety program.
- (k) Maintain written reports of incidents and daily activity logs.
- (l) Understands and complies with all district policies, procedures, and expectations, as articulated in the employee handbook or as communicated by administration.
- (m) Participate in school drills (fire, lockdown, evacuation, secure, shelter) and ensure students, staff, and visitors follow procedures.
- (n) Attend training and maintain knowledge of safety protocols and emergency response practices within the guidelines of Trinity Basin Preparatory policies/procedures and the Texas School Safety Center.
- (o) Serve as a positive role model for students to promote respectful interactions.
- (p) Other duties as assigned by the Director of Campus Safety and Security.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS & ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
- (a) While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to grasp, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $17 to $23 Per Hour
