General Summary
Responsible for operating and monitoring surveillance cameras for the DART Police Department. Answers phone calls for service and police incident text reporting and inputs information into the Computer Aided Dispatch system.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Monitors surveillance cameras for suspicious, unsafe, illegal, and inappropriate activity to assist with the detection and prevention of crime.
- Utilizes intelligence data provided by various sources to monitor actual and potential problem areas.
- Operates a multi-camera recording system, ensuring all events are recorded.
- Uses controls to move camera positions to cover the full viewing range of cameras and/or zoomed in viewing.
- Operates and uses all equipment in a safe and responsible manner, preventing misuse, falsification, or compromise of recorded images, data, or records.
- Communicates the need for police or other appropriate responses to suspicious, unsafe, inappropriate, illegal, and/or criminal activity.
- Assesses situations to determine importance, urgency, and risks, and makes clear and timely decisions.
- Exchanges all relevant information with colleagues at shift change and documents activity in a log for review at each shift.
- Provides intelligence information to supervisor on subjects or areas as requested.
- Inspects equipment and software during each shift for failures/faults and operational readiness.
- Troubleshoots camera operations as required.
- Reports equipment failures/faults and needed repairs/maintenance to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
- Maintains written records of all equipment and software failures, faults, repairs, and maintenance.
- Searches and retrieves any requested recorded images.
- Reviews all footage of an incident to extract maximum information from every camera angle for investigations, evidence in court, and administrative proceedings.
- Creates still, video, or digital copies of requested recorded images as required, maintaining the evidence trail.
- Documents fulfillment/failures/faults in the workflow process.
- Provides evidence statements for the police and testifies as a witness in court, as required.
- Maintains confidential information and files.
- Answers Police Dispatch phone lines and texting application.
- Inputs initial information into the computer-aided dispatch system for Police Telecommunicators to dispatch officers based on call priorities.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or G.E.D.
- Two (2) years of experience in security, law enforcement, administrative support, or related field.
- Ability to work variable shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Effective interpersonal skills to communicate with all levels of supervisory and non-supervisory employees, government entities, a culturally diverse community, and others both inside and outside of DART.
- High level of concentration, keen alertness, and ability to focus on and note relevant details in an organized manner and act appropriately.
- Analytical and creative skills to find solutions to problems of limited complexity.
- Ability to prioritize tasks calmly under pressure and in emergency situations, exercising good judgment.
- Ability to assimilate visual and audible information and accurately record and relay it both verbally and in writing.
- Proficiency using PC and software applications.
- Fiduciary obligation to department and DART in handling materials and information of a confidential nature.
- Successful completion of the selection process, including interview and background investigation, including criminal history investigation.
- Pass a physical (medical) examination, which includes a drug screen.
Works in an environment with minimal exposure to dust, noise, or temperature variations. May be moderately exposed to unpleasant working conditions to include dust, noise, temperature, weather, petroleum products, and chemicals while visiting DART’s operating facilities, assuming the incumbent observes all policies, procedures, safety precautions, and regulations, and uses all protective clothing and devices provided.
