Director of Campus Safety and Security

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY The Director of Campus Safety and Security is the School's senior leader for a coordinated campus safety, security, emergency preparedness, and risk management program. Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director protects students, employees, families, visitors, volunteers, contractors, and School assets while helping maintain a campus that is safe, secure, welcoming, and prepared. The Director advises the Chief Financial Officer and Head of School on material risks and priorities, supervises the Security Officers, directs emergency readiness, and builds effective working relationships across the School and with public-safety agencies.

JOB SCOPEThe Director sets department standards and multi-year priorities, manages day-to-day security operations, recommends policy and capital improvements, and acts within approved authority during routine and urgent situations. During an active emergency, the Director may initiate immediate protective actions under School protocols and then promptly notify the Chief Financial Officer and Head of School. The role works closely with Human Resources, Facilities, Technology, Nursing, Student Support, Athletics, Auxiliary Programs, Communications, Division Directors, Director of School Life, and other School leaders.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Strategic Leadership and Governance Develops and recommends the School's campus safety, security, emergency preparedness, and risk management strategy, policies, standards, and multi-year priorities.

Advises the Chief Financial Officer and Head of School on emerging risks, significant incidents, staffing needs, insurance or regulatory concerns, budget priorities, and corrective action.

Defines clear decision rights, escalation paths, post orders, and operating procedures so employees understand who has authority during routine operations and emergencies.

Keeps safety practices aligned with the School's mission, educational programs, community expectations, and the developmental needs of students from 18 months through Grade 12.Campus Safety and Security Operations Supports daily carpool duty with the security team and is a visible presence on campus.

Directs daily campus security operations, including patrol coverage, access control, visitor management, key and credential control, event security, traffic and carpool safety, and protection of School property.

Sets adequate staffing and coverage plans for the academic day, after-school programs, athletics, summer programs, special events, construction activity, and other periods of increased need and is visible as the Director during events.

Coordinates the response to security concerns and incidents, protects evidence, ensures timely reports, and refers student, employee, or investigative matters to the appropriate School leader.

Reviews incident patterns, service requests, and campus observations to identify recurring concerns and improve procedures, staffing, training, or physical safeguards.

Maintains professional relationships with neighboring residents and businesses and addresses campus-related safety concerns within the Director's authority.

Emergency Preparedness and Crisis Management Develops, maintains, and tests the School's emergency operations plan, continuity and recovery procedures, reunification plan, crisis-response protocols, and department standard operating procedures.

Uses the Incident Command System and coordinates unified command with law enforcement, fire, emergency medical services, and emergency-management partners when an incident requires a multi-agency response.

Plans drills and tabletop exercises with School leaders and first responders, leads after-action reviews, assigns corrective actions, and verifies that approved improvements are completed.

Directs immediate protective actions during emergencies in accordance with School protocols and provides timely, factual updates to authorized leaders.

Coordinates operational support for crisis communications while preserving confidential information and following the Head of School's authority over public and media statements.

Threat Assessment and Risk Prevention Leads or serves in the designated security role on the School's multidisciplinary behavioral threat assessment and management process, working with Student Support, academic leaders, Human Resources, and administration.
