NL-Underground Utility Locator; Dallas

Northern Lights Locating and Inspection Inc is looking for Utility Locators. We offer competitive pay, great benefits, and a paid time off program. Our locators are empowered to operate independently while being supported by a dedicated team.

• Locate underground utilities for clients and property owners based on 811 tickets per 811 dig laws
• Use utility maps, as‑built civil engineering drawings, GIS information, and various pipe and electronic locating equipment
• Utilize flags and/or paint to mark the location of underground utilities
• Prepare various reports, forms, and memos to document work completed, problems encountered and/or resolved
• Take pictures of utility lines located for each 811 ticket
• Investigate and prepare detailed written documentation on excavations that result in damage to underground utilities
• Use a cell‑phone‑based app to record locating marks for clients, property owners, excavators, and property owners; the app holds photos and enables locators to complete all required documents
• Participate in on‑call rotation

• Know best locate practices, procedures and 811 law
• Read and interpret utility maps and as‑built civil engineering drawings
• Maintain cleanliness and good operating condition of all provided equipment and vehicle
• Maintain a tobacco‑free vehicle
• Locate underground utilities using multiple methods of locating
• Understand and carry out written and oral instructions
• Maintain small‑ to medium‑sized equipment and trucks
• Complete paperwork and documentation
• Communicate and use interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, supervisors, the general public, etc., to exchange information and receive work direction
• Attention to detail
• Be able to work in all weather conditions
• Willingness to travel (75%+)
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills
• Able to pass a drug screen
• Must have a valid driver’s license and the ability to obtain a DOT physical certification
• Must be available to work varying schedules and overtime
• Maintain regular attendance and punctuality
