Summary
This is an OPEN CONTINUOUS ANNOUNCEMENT and will remain open until 03/16/2027. Qualified applicants will be considered and referred as vacancies become available. The initial cut‑off date for referral of eligible applications will be 03/20/2026, with subsequent cut‑off dates on the 1st of each month.
QualificationsTo qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. Experience requirements specify that a specific length of training and experience is not required; applicants must demonstrate sufficient training or experience that shows the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position. Evidence of such training or experience must be supported by detailed descriptions on the applicant’s resume.
Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards.
The application will be screened against a screen‑out element, usually presented as the first question in the online questionnaire. Those who appear to meet the minimal acceptable qualification are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and eliminated. Eligible applicants are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements, which include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Ability to perform the work of the position without more than normal supervision
- Knowledge of equipment assembly, installation, and repair
- Technical practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
- Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, and blueprinting

Paid, unpaid, and volunteer experience—such as service through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, Ameri Corps) and other organizations—is counted toward qualifying experience. A full year of work is considered 35–40 hours per week; part‑time experience will be credited based on actual hours spent in appropriate activities. Applicants must clearly indicate the duties, responsibilities, and hours per week for each position when requesting credit for experience.
Duties- Responsible for a variety of carpentry construction duties such as alteration and installation of walls, floors, ceilings, roofs, doors, and windows on VANTHCS sites.
- Constructs new drywall partitions and other temporary structures of wood construction.
- Installs windows and doors, including mortising doors and adjusting for proper fitting.
- Cuts and installs trim material around new work and in cased openings, such as baseboard, ceiling molding, chair rails, and picture molding.
- Installs acoustical ceilings and floor coverings of all types, including carpet.
- Builds forms for concrete walks, road curbing, and steps.
- Works with Formica, laminate coverings, and paneling.
- Produces new furniture such as tables, cabinets, and work benches.
- Constructs and installs bulletin boards, blackboards, cabinets, and shelving as needed.
Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
