Position Summary
Target Hiring Range: $20.43 - $22.70
The purpose of this position is to perform manual labor within the assigned division. Depending on the area of assignment, the employee may be responsible for maintenance and repair of infrastructures, drainage systems, water and wastewater systems, and/or construction projects. The employee may also provide emergency response to all Public Works issues after hours, including but not limited to trees down, water, and sewer issues.
EssentialJob Functions
Performs semi‑skilled and skilled tasks including installations, inspections, repairs, and maintenance at assigned locations. Performs special winter work projects. Operates, maintains, inspects, troubleshoots, and performs minor repairs of various equipment including hand and mechanical tools and motorized equipment. Sets up work zones as appropriate and ensures safety procedures and proper use of safety equipment at all times. Provides general maintenance support to special events.
Education and ExperienceWork requires knowledge necessary to understand basic operational, technical, or office processes. 8th‑grade education plus five years of experience is required in a similar field, or a high school diploma or GED equivalency with over one year of experience is preferred.
Employment ConditionsEmployment is conditional upon successful completion of a criminal background check, drug and alcohol test, and a motor‑vehicle review. This position is classified as a safety‑sensitive position and is subject to drug and alcohol testing, ongoing driver‑record checks, and all U.S. DOT regulations during the course of employment.
Special RequirementsAbility and willingness to work flexible hours, holidays, and weekends as needed. Subject to "stand‑by" duty.
Licenses and CertificatesValid Texas class "C" driver’s license with good driving record and ability to maintain it while employed.
Work EnvironmentWork involves extreme exposure to disagreeable elements and extreme weather conditions. It requires continuous outdoor work with frequent exposure to poor weather conditions. Physical demands include frequent lifting of heavy objects weighing 50 lbs, continuous physical exertion requiring heavy muscular effort, and resulting fatigue of arms, back, or sensory facilities. Adequate physical stamina to walk most of the workday and extensive bending, stooping, and climbing is necessary.
