Our Austin Equipment Yard has an outstanding opportunity for a Shop Technician at our equipment yard located in Southwest Dallas, Texas near Duncanville
. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in motor graders and excavators, and be capable of performing off‑rental inspections, major repairs, and welding/fabrication tasks. This role is critical to maintaining the performance and safety of our heavy equipment fleet.
Responsibilities:
- Perform thorough inspections of off‑rental and incoming equipment to evaluate mechanical condition, safety, and readiness for redeployment or return to service
- Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues on motor graders, excavators, and other heavy construction equipment
- Execute major and minor repairs, preventative maintenance, and corrective work to restore equipment to operational standards
- Perform welding and fabrication tasks to repair, reinforce, or modify equipment components as required
- Disassemble, troubleshoot, and reassemble equipment components using shop tools, diagnostic equipment, and technical documentation
- Accurately document all inspections, maintenance activities, and repairs in service records and internal tracking systems
- Coordinate with supervisors, equipment coordinators, and other technicians regarding equipment condition, repair priorities, and timelines
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with company policies, manufacturer guidelines, and safety standards
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop environment, including proper care of tools and equipment
- Identify potential equipment issues early and recommend necessary repairs or maintenance actions
- Follow all safety policies, procedures, and company guidelines
- Perform other shop and equipment‑related duties to support operational needs
Qualifications:
- 2+ years of experience as a Shop Technician, Heavy Equipment Technician, or similar role, preferably within a construction or equipment rental environment
- Strong mechanical knowledge of motor graders, excavators, and other heavy construction equipment
Proficiency in welding and fabrication, including repairing, reinforcing, or modifying equipment components
- Ability to read and interpret equipment manuals, schematics, and technical documents
- Strong communication skills with the ability to work independently and in a team‑oriented shop environment
- Attention to detail and awareness of surroundings to support a safe work environment
- Ability to follow safety rules, procedures, and supervisor instructions
- Must have a strong commitment to jobsite safety
Requirements:
- High school diploma, GED, or vocational training/certification
- Accurately document inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities in service records or maintenance systems for all work performed
- Requires working indoors and outdoors at times in the rain or snow and during cold, warm, and hot temperatures
