Field Service Technician II – Barrier & Security Systems
The Field Service Technician II – Barrier & Security Systems is responsible for preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of vehicle barrier systems and perimeter security equipment at customer sites. This multi-craft field role requires strong mechanical aptitude, working knowledge of hydraulic systems, and basic electrical and controls troubleshooting skills. The technician supports scheduled maintenance and on-demand service calls while providing professional customer service and maintaining accurate service documentation.
Field Service Technician teams travel extensively, typically Monday–Friday, with occasional weekend work.
- Perform preventive maintenance (PMs) and routine service on vehicle barrier systems and security equipment
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and basic electrical/control systems
- Repair or replace defective components, including motors, hydraulic systems, wiring, and mechanical assemblies
- Respond to service calls and resolve equipment issues in a timely and professional manner
- Use schematics, drawings, and manuals to complete diagnostics and repairs
- Disassemble, repair, and reassemble equipment as needed
- Operate hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment
- Identify root causes of equipment failures and recommend corrective actions
- Document service activity, parts usage, and recommendations in company systems
- Communicate professionally with customers on-site
- Order and install replacement parts as needed
- Ensure proper wiring methods based on environment (e.g., wet conditions, distance, interference)
- Ensure compliance with all safety procedures and PPE requirements
- Complete required training (OSHA, etc.)
- Crosstrain and support other service/installation functions as needed
- 5+ years of experience in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance (automotive technicians encouraged)
- Experience with multi-craft troubleshooting (mechanical + basic electrical)
- Working knowledge of hydraulic systems (strongly preferred)
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and manuals
- Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
- High level of integrity and accountability
- Strong customer service and communication skills
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities, environments, and weather conditions
- Ability to travel overnight and out-of-state
- Ability to drive company vehicles (valid driver's license and acceptable driving record)
- Ability to pass DoT drug test, physical, and background checks
- Experience with vehicle barrier systems or access control/security equipment
- PLC Troubleshooting experience
- Field service or customer-facing technician experience
- Lift and carry up to 100 lbs
- Stand and walk up to 10 hours per day
- Work outdoors in varying weather conditions
