Position: Preventative Maintenance Technician II, Zale Lipshy Pavilion (730AM-4PM, Mon-Fri)

Job Summary

Preventative Maintenance Technician II at UT Southwestern Medical Center will perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on critical building systems and equipment at Zale Lipshy Pavilion. The role requires journeyman-level skills in multiple trades—including HVAC, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical systems in a hospital/healthcare environment—along with strong troubleshooting abilities, a proactive maintenance mindset, and experience maintaining healthcare or commercial facility systems. This position works under minimal supervision and serves as a key liaison between Facilities Management and customers.

Location

Zale Lipshy Pavilion, onsite 100% of the time; may assist other UTSW locations as needed.

Shift Requirements

7:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday; availability for overtime when needed.

Required Experience and Education
  • High School Diploma or vocational school.
  • Four years of related work experience or journeyman-level experience; at least two years in a skilled maintenance trade (PM, DI/RO, Air, Vac).
Job Duties
  • Performs preventive maintenance on various building systems and equipment—electrical, air systems, deionized water, plumbing, mechanical—while proactively maintaining all areas of responsibility and consulting with customers on work priority, assuming full ownership of customer problems and equipment breakdowns; serves as liaison between customer and Facilities Management.
  • Starts up, shuts down, and adjusts equipment or systems according to established operational and safety procedures; completes all UTSW required compliance training and adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.
  • Inspects systems and equipment for proper lubrication, calibration, vibration, seal failures, and other conditions; informs supervisory or managerial personnel of abnormal conditions and takes appropriate action.
  • Performs duties associated with all crafts as skills develop; completes major repairs on technical systems and supporting equipment; performs preventive, predictive, or corrective maintenance tasks within specified timelines; identifies maintenance needs and performs pro‑active repairs before breakdown occurs.
  • Supports area shift coverage, after‑hours or extended projects as needed; assists in major maintenance repairs; trains and mentors new personnel in area of expertise; teaches basic knowledge of codes and proper tool use; reads and interprets and provides “marked up” blueprints or drawings when required.
  • Documents conditions found and conducts minor repairs as appropriate, following departmental guidelines; functions as primary point of contact for customers for all Facilities Management services.
  • Provides written recommendations regarding major repairs and/or variances in frequency and type of preventive maintenance scheduled; performs preventive, predictive, or corrective maintenance tasks.
  • Participates in the Facilities Management sponsored in‑house craft trade training program; attends maintenance training courses, area staff, and safety meetings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
