Responsibilities
- Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.
- Partner with Journeymen to repair centrifugal, steam turbines, absorption machines, open‑drive screw chillers, and ammonia systems.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot equipment issues, provide solutions, outcome recommendations, and quotes to customers.
- Uphold the highest level of service, safety, and customer satisfaction.
- Travel up to 20% of the time to support branch customers, including troubleshooting, installation, and repair activities.
- Member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL‑CIO.
- Minimum eight (8) years of commercial and/or industrial mechanical troubleshooting experience in HVAC, industrial petrochemical, or data center environments.
- Experience with rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors, and plumbing.
- Ability to repair centrifugal compressors, steam turbines, screw chillers, and ammonia/ hydrocarbon system components.
- Maintain ammonia and hydrocarbon safety training certification.
- Able to install complete systems (chillers, rooftop units, plumbing, and all supporting mechanical systems).
- Proficient in mechanical shaft alignment using dial indicators, laser, and other tools.
- Use vibration equipment to troubleshoot drive‑lines.
- Pass a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies.
- Universal EPA refrigerants license, applicable state or local licensing, and a valid driver’s license.
- Self‑starter with a passion and desire to learn, prioritize safety, and communicate clearly with customers.
Pay Rate: $43.51 hourly (determined by the CBA/rate sheet). This is a bargaining‑unit position with benefits provided through a local labor union aligned with a collective bargaining agreement. With successful performance, JCI may recommend you to the Union Local apprenticeship program, and acceptance must occur within 365 days of employment.
Union & Licensing Requirements- Union membership and participation in the Union Local apprenticeship program are required.
- Travel may be required 10%‑20% for branch customer activities.
- Bargaining‑unit position subject to all pre‑hiring screening of JCI.
