Position Summary

A UPS Technician III is responsible for startups, certifications, preventative maintenance, and scheduled maintenance for systems related to Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) systems, including Battery Systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform UPS replacements and new installations.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot diagnosis, routine, and emergency repairs of all types of systems without supervision and with minimal disruption to the customer.
  • Install, troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, start‑up, and commission all types of UPS systems.
  • Lead jobs with multiple crew members of various skill levels.
  • Communicate and work effectively with general contractors, subcontractors, partners, and clients to complete projects on schedule and within budget.
  • Properly operate all equipment, including UPS systems, Battery systems, PDU's, ATS, and AC/DC rectifiers, without supervision.
  • Maintain excellent written and oral communication skills with co‑workers, sales teams, engineering partners, management teams, and clients.
  • Accurately assess human power requirements for maintenance and installation services.
  • Estimate consumables and connectivity parts for project completion.
  • Recognize when crew productivity and safety are jeopardized due to duration of efforts or extreme conditions, and take appropriate action.
  • Exercise leadership and good judgment, resulting in a healthy, harmonious, productive team performance.
  • Foster great team morale and a spirit of cooperation on job sites and operations centers.
  • Balance multiple needs and challenges from a multitude of directions.
  • Teach learned skills, techniques, strategies, and methods to the next generation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function.
  • Other duties as assigned by Services Management.
Qualifications
  • Education/

    Experience:

    • High School Diploma & a minimum of 3 to 5 years UPS service experience.
    • Must have electrical/mechanical experience relating to UPS systems, DC systems and knowledge of OEMs such as Eaton, Mitsubishi, Schneider, APC, GE, Emerson, etc.
    • Clean driving record a must.
    • Safe operation of department equipment.
    • Knowledge of or ability to learn basic AC/DC theory, electronic components, and circuitry.
    • Complete training on:
      • 1. Use of Digital multimeter for AC and DC diagnostic measurements.
      • 2. Use of Amp Clamp and flexible CT in DC and AC measures.
      • 3. Use of Phase Rotation Meter, Power Quality Analyzer, IR camera, and Oscilloscope.
      • 4. Show understanding of proper use of:
        • a. Isolation devices to control available voltage potentials.
        • b. Necessary use of Arc‑Flash suit and PPE.
    • Show competency in the connections of series, parallel, and series‑parallel.
    • Understand torque values, torque‑mark application, and visual inspection of completed installations.
    • Understand and operate Phase Rotation meters, Power Quality.
    • US Citizenship required.
  • Computer

    Skills:

    Proficient knowledge of Microsoft Office including Word and Excel.
  • Certificates and Licenses:
    • OSHA 30‑hour certification.
    • NFPA‑70E Safety Training.
    • Thermography, level 2 or higher.
  • Supervisory Responsibilities: No supervisory responsibilities.
  • Physical Demands: Regularly required to sit; standing and walking required. Noise level is usually moderate. Must lift and carry up to 50–70 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 100 pounds.

Pay Range: $47.54 - $71.34 per hour
