Field Service Paving Technician II – Overview

Provides face‑to‑face customer service at off‑ and on‑site locations, assisting with quotes, inspections, troubleshooting, diagnostics, repairs, and reconditioning of paving construction equipment.

Serves a geographic region between Waco and South Dallas/Fort Worth on the I‑35 corridor. Must be willing to travel, with overnight stays possible.

• Perform repairs and troubleshooting off‑site with minimal supervision
• Diagnose paving equipment malfunctions and failures
• Remove, install, disassemble, and assemble parts; test and adjust assemblies
• Repair or replace components according to CAT standards; test and verify operation
• Prepare and complete job‑related documents, write service reports, order parts, and maintain customer records; access required databases (work order, parts order, Vision Link, DBS, SimsSI, SIS web)
• Operate equipment and vehicles with all necessary licenses and certificates
• Maintain service vehicle inspection records, daily inspections, and driver logs per DOT requirements
• Adhere to contamination control and HAZMAT rules and regulations
• Maintain all company equipment, tools, and vehicles in good, clean, working order
• Communicate job progress to supervisor and customer as needed
• Complete assigned jobs and tasks to meet or exceed flat‑rate times and re‑do metric standards
• Work overtime as required by workload and customer needs
• Complete all assigned Technician Training Path courses and safety training in a timely and proficient manner
• Project professionalism with internal and external customers, including personal appearance
• Work safely at all times and comply with all safety policies, and company procedures and standards
• Maintain regular and punctual attendance
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Knowledge of complex grade control systems, special software/hardware for machine communication and diagnostics, intelligent compaction, machine application, asphalt densities, mat deformities, and correct machine operation procedures
• Knowledge of equipment and tools, their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
• Knowledge of safe work procedures and practices
• Proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems

• Ability to operate hand, power, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair

• More than five years of paving equipment experience required; eight or more years preferred
• Acceptable driving record required
• Must own required tools for repairs
• Diesel technology schooling preferred
• No supervisory responsibilities
• Travel: up to 50 % of the time within the northern region; possibility of overnight travel
• Physical requirements:

• Work environment: outdoors near moving mechanical parts; noise may be loud; occasionally indoors; exposure to weather extremes, chemicals, dust, steam, high‑pressure water, high‑speed rotating equipment; requires protective gear; work in cramped or high places
