Position: Shop Service Technician 3 - Heavy Equipment
Description Holt CAT in north Dallas is looking for a experienced heavy construction equipment technician.  This position is responsible for performing inspections, diagnoses, and repairs of diesel-powered heavy construction equipment and/or related equipment or components, following established procedures and guidelines. Must be able to work independently or as a member of a team to provide mechanical services that satisfies customer needs and achieves departmental goals.

Mid-level position – Generally has more than four years of experience and/or demonstrated job relevant knowledge/skills. A Level III Technician has moderate knowledge of the field’s standard and technical concepts, practices, and procedures. Level III Technician performs a variety of standard, complex, and technical tasks; is indirectly supervised and self-starting; often a team member on a large project.
Essential Functions
Models, promotes, reinforces, and rewards the consistent use of HOLT’s Values Based Leadership (VBL) tools, models, and processes to ensure alignment with our Vision, Values, and Mission
Troubleshoots and diagnoses construction equipment malfunctions and failures
Disassembles and assembles of machine components to manufacturer’s specifications through the use of hand tools, pneumatic tools, and any specialized tooling
Rebuilds, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components
Demonstrates good customer relations and support; communicates customer needs to shop management
Plans and controls cost of repair jobs
Completes parts orders and identifies parts for return
Mentors and helps train other technicians
Maintains all equipment and work areas – keeps in good, clean, and orderly condition
Completes all documents associated with repairs in a timely manner
Works safely at all times and adheres to all applicable safety policies; complies with all company policies, procedures, and standards
Works overtime as required by workload and customers’ needs
Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; e.g., Pro Tech Technician Training Paths
Requires regular and punctual employee attendance
Performs other duties as assigned

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance
Knowledge of heavy construction equipment machines such as dozers, excavators, motor graders, and other dirt moving equipent preferred  
Demonstrates proficiency with current computer software, related hardware, and machine electronic systems - CAT ET & CAT SIS Preferred
Quality control analysis skills - Conducting tests and inspections of products, services, or processes to evaluate quality or performance and communicate findings
Operation and control skills - Controlling operations of equipment or systems
Equipment selection skills - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job
Ability to operate a conventional forklift and an overhead crane
The ability to quickly and repeatedly operate the controls of a machine or a vehicle to exact positions
Ability to operate hand tools, power tools, pneumatic tools, and equipment used in mechanical repair
The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects
The ability to read, write, and understand information
The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences
Must have basic mechanic hand and pneumatic tools (metric/standard)
Requirements

Education and Experience:

Four or more years of diesel-powered heavy equipment repair experience preferred
Ability and knowledge to read/use schematics and diagrams experience is preferred
High school diploma or equivalent preferred
Graduation from a diesel technology program preferred
