The Electrician is responsible for installation, repairs, and maintenance of the electrical equipment and fixtures of City of Dallas properties and facilities, including any labor or material used in airport field lighting, exhibit booths, city buildings, pump stations, civil defense sirens, traffic signal lighting, water and wastewater plants and other facilities or equipment used in connection with the use of electrical energy inside or outside a building or property in compliance with federal, state, and city codes updated by the latest edition of the National Electrical Code (NEC) adopted by TDLR.

The Electrician is responsible for installation, repairs, and maintenance of the electrical equipment and fixtures of City of Dallas properties and facilities, including any labor or material used in airport field lighting, exhibit booths, city buildings, pump stations, civil defense sirens, traffic signal lighting, water and wastewater plants and other facilities or equipment used in connection with the use of electrical energy inside or outside a building or property in compliance with federal, state, and city codes updated by the latest edition of the National Electrical Code (NEC) adopted by TDLR.

• Performs electrical work in the installation, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical equipment, lighting, and power circuits for the city facilities; develops and implements plans and specifications for maintenance and electrical renovation projects.
• Troubleshoots electrical and electronic apparatus, motors, controls, and equipment by using schematics to ensure electrical power compatibility and safety of components.
• Installs, repairs and maintains various electrical equipment such as control circuits, lighting circuits, motors, switch gear for new, temporary and existing construction and ensures equipment conforms to electrical and safety codes.
• Inspects electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustment or repair to ensure compliance with electrical codes; tests circuits and electric components to locate broken connections or defective current-control mechanisms.
• Documents maintenance and repair activities to provide accurate records of work performed; trains apprentice or assistant level electricians on electrical systems installation and repair procedures to ensure work is accomplished according to specifications. Attends various training sessions to develop skills and expertise. Transitions knowledge to more junior electricians.
• Performs preventative maintenance work on electrical equipment and fixtures to detect electrical hazards; connects, pulls, and lays wires according to diagrams to install and repair fixtures.

7 Reads medium complexity blueprints or electrical diagrams to determine locations of equipment and conformance to building and safety codes.

• Performs other work as needed or assigned.
