Fleet Electronics Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:

Tornado Bus Company is seeking a skilled Bus Electronics Technician responsible for the installation, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance of electrical, audio, video, and passenger communication systems installed on company buses.

This position will focus on maintaining reliable onboard electronic systems, including monitors, microphones, public address (PA) systems, speakers, audio/video equipment, wiring, electrical connections, power supplies, and related components.

The ideal candidate has hands‑on experience with 12V/24V electrical systems, electronic troubleshooting, wiring, and audio/video equipment and is comfortable working independently to diagnose and correct electrical and electronic problems.

• Install, troubleshooting, repair, and maintain onboard televisions, monitors, audio/video systems, microphones, speakers, amplifiers, and PA systems.
• Diagnose electrical and electronic problems using appropriate testing equipment, including multimeters, circuit testers, and other diagnostic tools.
• Install, repair, route, and replace electrical wiring, connectors, harnesses, switches, fuses, relays, and related components.
• Troubleshoot intermittent electrical problems, shorts, open circuits, poor connections, power loss, and equipment failures.
• Perform preventive maintenance inspections on onboard audio, video, and electronic systems.
• Install and replace TVs, monitors, mounting hardware, wiring, and related equipment.
• Inspect electrical connections and wiring for damage, corrosion, loose connections, improper installation, or other potential failures.
• Test repaired or newly installed equipment to ensure proper operation before returning the bus to service.
• Read and interpret wiring diagrams, schematics, equipment manuals, installation instructions, and technical documentation.
• Maintain organized wiring and ensure installations are completed safely and professionally.
• Document repairs, installations, parts used, equipment failures, and completed work.
• Maintain an appropriate inventory of commonly used electrical and electronic parts, connectors, wiring, fuses, and related supplies.
• Coordinate with Maintenance, Operations, Safety, and other departments when buses require electronic repairs.
• Identify recurring equipment failures and recommend corrective actions or equipment improvements.
• Ensure installations and repairs do not interfere with vehicle safety systems or other critical bus components.
• Follow company safety procedures when working with electrical systems, batteries, tools, and equipment.
• Travel to other company terminals or maintenance locations when necessary to troubleshoot or repair equipment.
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Other duties as required

• Minimum of 2 years of hands‑on experience with electrical, electronic, automotive electrical, audio/video, or similar systems preferred.
• Experience installing or repairing audio/video equipment, TVs, monitors, speakers, microphones, PA systems, or similar electronic equipment preferred.
• Experience troubleshooting 12V and/or 24V DC electrical systems strongly preferred.
• Spanish required.

• High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training beyond high school required.

• Driver License required.
• Technical training, certification, associate degree, or coursework in Electronics Technology, Automotive Electrical Systems, Electrical Technology, Automotive Technology, or a related field required.

Position may require flexibility based on fleet operational needs. The employee may occasionally be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, or additional hours to complete critical repairs or return buses to service. Travel to other Tornado Bus Company locations may occasionally be required. (Off Sundays)
