Our child-care regulation inspectors work as a collaborative team monitoring and investigating child-care facilities throughout the State of Texas. Team members perform facility inspections, conduct investigations in child-care facilities and homes, provide training to child-care providers, and convene pre-application meetings for child-care facility applicants.

This position may be filled as CCL Inspector IV or V if the applicant has previous experience as identified in the initial screening section.

Job Functions (EJFs)
  • Monitors licensed and registered child-care facilities, documents compliance or noncompliance with standards, and notifies providers of any required corrective action in accordance with CCR policy. Monitors inspections, follow-up inspections, waivers and variances; and oversees background checks, permit renewals, and related documentation. Plans inspections to evaluate standards over a two-year period and annually for federal standards; identifies deficiencies, mitigates risk, takes photos as required, and provides technical assistance to improve compliance.

  • Investigates complaints and allegations of minimum standards violations in licensed facilities and homes. Completes investigations timely and accurately within required time frames; documents findings to support decisions and addresses risk to children. (25%)
  • Evaluates new applications for child-care facilities to issue permits. Processes applications and issuances in accordance with law, rules, and policy time frames. (15%)
  • Identifies risk and recommends referral to Child-Care Enforcement (CCE) when necessary; processes plans of action and conducts follow-up inspections to ensure ongoing compliance. (10%)
  • Provides training and technical assistance to child-care providers; attends or presents at provider meetings; conducts trainings including Pre-Application sessions for new providers. (10%)
  • Responds to emergency complaints of high-risk situations in licensed operations. (5%)
