Brief

Job Description

The CPI Supervisor performs highly complex consultative services, technical assistance, and supervisory work. This position manages administrative staff and a unit of caseworkers responsible for conducting investigations and Alternative Response (AR) cases within the CPI Division. The Supervisor provides case consultations, monitors case status using data warehouse reports, and identifies trends related to risk and child safety issues.

The Supervisor selects, hires, manages, and develops staff through performance reviews, individual conferences, case readings, data warehouse reports, field visits, and unit meetings, ensuring productivity and compliance with policy, procedure, and service control requirements.

This role involves consultative services to design, implement, and monitor solutions that improve outcomes for families, and subject matter expertise to guide internal and external stakeholders. The position requires regular on‑call duties covering holidays and weekends.

Essential Job Functions

Oversees, directs, and staffs case actions related to safety, risk, and permanency daily, ensuring timely contacts and accurate documentation.

Implies program guidelines, performs administrative functions, conducts unit meetings, and reviews intake cases to mitigate child safety and risk.

Interviews, selects, hires, manages, and develops staff; conducts field visits, performance appraisals, and training to maintain compliance with policy and best practices.

Consults with staff, delegates policy interpretation, and maintains effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, representing the program at meetings, conferences, and hearings.

Performs other duties as assigned to maintain unit operations.

Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and regulations related to the INV/AR program.
  • Specialized knowledge of INV/AR program and child welfare practice.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Skill at establishing and maintaining productive relationships internally and externally.
  • Ability to operate a personal computer and use various software packages.
  • Ability to prepare clear and concise reports.
  • Ability to gather, assemble, correlate and analyze facts.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to understand new information effectively and quickly.
  • Ability to plan, direct, and assign responsibilities and supervise the work of others.
  • Ability to work with people from a variety of backgrounds and professions.
  • Ability to represent Child Protective Investigations effectively with key stakeholders.

Initial Screening Criteria

Child Protective Services Supervisor I: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university plus 2 years of full‑time experience in Child Protective Services or child placement services OR 60 accredited college credit hours plus four (4) years CPI/CPS casework experience OR 90 accredited college credit hours plus 3½ years of CPI/CPS casework experience OR currently employed as a Child Protective Services Supervisor I in Family and Protective Services.
