Coordinator II (226 Days) Grant Funded

Knowledge of and experience with all federal guidelines as they pertain to the eligibility of children and provision of services for the McKinney-Vento Homeless Program. Knowledge of the national demographic trends affecting homelessness in general and more specifically youth homelessness such as LGBTQ youth homelessness, mental illness, etc. Extensive knowledge of social services and district policies and procedures as well as resources in the community that would benefit homeless students and families.

Utilize crisis intervention skills, case management, and community resources knowledge to support homeless youth/families to move toward stabilization for better school performance when possible. Experience in dealing with the social issues related to homelessness, such as domestic violence, mental health, substance abuse, etc. Lead the redevelopment and operation of the Drop-In Centers at each of the District Comprehensive High Schools to support students towards high school graduation and post-graduation opportunities;

collect data and create data reports describing the effectiveness of the Drop In Centers. Secure Partnership Agreements and/or Data Sharing Agreements as needed for each of the Drop-In Centers to provide a more robust set of services at the Centers. Oversee volunteers and interns associated with the Homeless Education Program Drop-In Centers and ensure that they have participated in the Dallas Independent School District volunteer policy and procedures training.

Seek out and build relationships with community partners that can provide resources and services at the High School Drop-In Centers. Coordinate presentations from agencies to present at the Drop-In Centers which address college/college admission, new industries/career opportunities and life skills for students who graduate high school. Coordinate community resources for homeless families, children and youth through referrals to health, dental, mental health, housing, substance abuse and other appropriate services.

Coordinate with High School Principal/designee to ensure students participate in Drop-In Centers. Work with the District service center to manage the receiving and timely distribution of donations to the Drop-In Centers. Coordinate with District Food Services to ensure the Drop-In Centers are in compliance with local, state and federal nutritional guidelines. Coordinate with the Transition Resource Action Center at After8toEducate shelter to provide services to students at the shelter.

Coordinate with Promise House at After8toEducate shelter to ensure appropriate student referrals are made for available shelter beds; assist Promise House in case managing these students and assisting with any school related issues.

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university with emphasis in a directly related field;
Master's degree in Social Work preferred. Demonstrates strong written and oral language skills. Demonstrates ability to work and communicate with diverse audience. Demonstrates excellent computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Oracle.
