Senior Embedded Software Engineer

Industry: Embedded systems, advanced hardware platforms, communications, energy/industrial technology

A client of ours, in the specialised electronic equipment industry, is looking to add to their embedded software capability. You’ll be working on low‑level kernel enhancements, custom hardware platforms, and broader software development across multiple next‑generation products. This is a hands‑on engineering role suited to someone who enjoys diving deep into systems‑level architecture while also contributing to higher‑level applications and tools.

• Develop and enhance Linux kernel components, including drivers, subsystems, and hardware‑specific configurations.
• Create and maintain device tree files to support custom boards, SoCs, and embedded platforms.
• Debug, profile, and optimise kernel behaviour to ensure reliability and performance.
• Contribute to general software and firmware development across various internal projects.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional hardware, embedded, and software teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Support prototype bring‑up, system testing, and technical documentation.

• Strong experience with the Linux kernel, including development, debugging, or subsystem work.
• Proficiency in C and understanding of low‑level OS concepts and hardware interaction.
• Good knowledge of kernel internals such as memory/process management, I/O, networking, or device drivers.
• Familiarity with embedded Linux environments, cross‑compilation, or build systems (e.g., Yocto, Buildroot, Make, Kconfig).
• Solid software engineering fundamentals and ability to write clean, maintainable code.
