Position Overview
Software Engineering Manager within PNC’s Lending Technology organization. Based in Pittsburgh, PA or Dallas, TX. Working in an in‑office environment with a supportive culture. No visa sponsorship or STEMOPT participation.
Job Description Technical Leadership (Primary Focus)Hands‑on technical leader: designing, coding, reviewing, troubleshooting software solutions. Lead the architecture and development of Java‑based microservices using Spring Boot and modern API‑driven patterns. Drive technical standards, best practices, and code quality across the team. Collaborate with architects and platform teams to design scalable, resilient, and secure systems. Participate directly in critical technical discussions, design reviews, and complex problem solving.
People & Team LeadershipManage and mentor 10–15 software engineers. Support performance, growth, and career development. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement. Support hiring, onboarding, and workforce planning aligned with technology and business needs. Provide clear direction, coaching, and feedback while empowering engineers to deliver high‑quality solutions.
Communication & Technical InfluenceCollaborate effectively with product managers, designers, QA, Dev Ops, and other engineers. Clearly communicate technical designs, risks, and trade‑offs to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. Participate actively in sprint planning, estimation, and delivery commitments. Mentor junior and mid‑level engineers through code reviews, design discussions, and guidance. Act as a role model for engineering best practices and professional behavior.

Successful candidates must demonstrate appropriate knowledge, skills, and abilities. Roles at this level typically require a university/college degree with 5+ years of industry‑relevant experience and at least 3 years of prior management experience. In lieu of a degree, a comparable combination of education, job‑specific certification(s), and experience (including military service) may be considered.
