GAINSCO is seeking a Manager, Software Development to lead software development teams responsible for delivering high-quality technology solutions. This role provides leadership, technical guidance, and delivery accountability while fostering a culture of collaboration, ownership, continuous improvement, and strong execution. The Manager, Software Development will balance hands‑on technical oversight with people leadership, ensuring the team is aligned to business priorities, agile delivery practices, and long-term technology strategy.

does a Manager, Software Development do at GAINSCO?
  • Lead agile software development teams through sprint planning, backlog refinement, daily stand‑ups, retrospectives, and delivery execution.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop software developers through regular feedback, goal setting, and professional development.
  • Provide technical guidance on solution design, code quality, architecture alignment, security standards, and development best practices.
  • Identify and remove blockers, resolve conflicts, and help teams stay focused on timely, high-quality delivery.
  • Partner with business stakeholders, product owners, executives, and IT leaders to communicate progress, risks, priorities, and outcomes.
  • Build a team culture focused on accountability, inclusion, collaboration, innovation, customer focus, and continuous improvement.
What is required?

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field required.
Certifications:
  • Project management certification, such as PMP, CSM, or SAFe, is preferred.
Experience:
  • 7+ years of progressive software development experience, including hands‑on experience designing, coding, testing, and debugging software.
  • 5+ years managing software developers in an agile software delivery environment.
  • Demonstrated success leading agile development teams and delivering business‑critical applications.
  • Technical experience with object‑oriented programming languages, database development, REST APIs, unit testing frameworks, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Experience promoting code quality, scalable design, maintainable systems, and modern software development best practices.
  • Insurance or financial services industry experience is preferred.
Skills and abilities:
  • Strong understanding of Agile principles and delivery frameworks, including Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe.
  • Proven ability to lead, motivate, and develop technical teams while balancing strategic direction with tactical execution.
