Job Overview
The Cargo Agent is responsible for handling, processing, and managing the movement of cargo through the airport facilities. This role includes loading and unloading mail from aircraft, sorting and organizing mail for distribution, and ensuring timely and accurate dispatch to destinations. The agent must adhere to safety and security protocols, handle documentation related to cargo, and operate equipment such as forklifts and trolleys.
Additionally, the agent works with airlines, postal services, and other stakeholders to coordinate mail logistics and address any issues that may arise.
- Handle and process incoming and outgoing mail and cargo at the airport
- Sort and organize mail and cargo based on destination, priority, and type
- Operate ground handling equipment for loading and unloading mail and cargo
- Ensure proper handling and storage of mail and cargo in compliance with safety guidelines
- Coordinate with airlines and ground crew for the timely transfer of mail and cargo
- Inspect mail and cargo for security, verifying contents against documentation
- Prepare and maintain accurate records of mail and cargo shipments
- Assist in the completion of necessary customs documentation for international shipments
- Monitor and manage inventory of mail and cargo handling supplies and equipment
- Respond to inquiries and provide information regarding mail and cargo status
- Follow regulations and procedures for handling hazardous materials and perishables
- Participate in training programs related to mail and cargo handling, safety, and security
- Assist in tracking and tracing lost or delayed shipments
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of the mail and cargo handling areas
- Collaborate with other airport departments to ensure efficient and secure mail and cargo operations
- Exemplify Prime Flight customer service and safety standards
- Perform any additional duties as assigned by management
- 18 years of age or older
- Must be a U.S. citizen
- Must have a valid state‑issued driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
- Communicate effectively in English (reading, writing, speaking)
- Experience in cargo handling, logistics, or a related field
- Familiarity with mail processing and sorting procedures
- Ability to operate cargo handling equipment such as forklifts
- Physical ability to lift and move heavy items
- Must be registered with Selective Service
- Ability to access and interpret information in print and electronically, including the use of electronic devices such as iPads/Tablets, Computers, and Mobile Devices
- Effectively communicate with colleagues and clients, both in‑person and through electronic means
- Pass a background check and drug screen
- Eligibility to acquire needed credentials and clearances (FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs and U.S. Postal‑ as applicable)

- Exposure to moderate and at times high noise levels

- Tasks may involve repetitive motions of arms, wrists, hands, and/or fingers
- Specific vision abilities required: closing vision at 20 inches or less, distance vision at 20 feet or more, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
Rate: $17 USD per hour (part‑time). Individual compensation may vary based on qualifications, skills, competencies, education, and experience.
