Accounting Manager

The purpose of this classification is to manage the activities, staff and daily operations of the County's accounting functions, including payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchasing, and grant management. This position acts on the CFO's behalf in his/her absence or as needed.

Essential functions include planning and supervising the operations, staff, and activities of the County's accounting functions; supervising, directing, and evaluating assigned staff; recommending and assisting in the implementation of new or revised accounting systems, procedures, and records; supervising the establishment and maintenance of accounting information in the automated financial information systems; overseeing and facilitating the preparation of accounting reports and statements;

providing guidance and assistance in the resolution of difficult accounting issues; and assisting with developing the County's operating and capital outlay budgets.

Additional functions include performing general clerical work in support of assigned duties, including answering telephones, assisting customers, and copying and filing documents.

Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or a related field; supplemented by at least four years of progressively responsible supervisory experience, accounting/finance experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.

Performance aptitudes include data utilization, human interaction, equipment, machinery, tools, and materials utilization, verbal aptitude, mathematical aptitude, functional reasoning, and situational reasoning. Physical ability, sensory requirements, and environmental factors are also required.
