Job Summary

Dalton State College invites applications for a full-time, 10-month faculty position in History or Political Science, beginning on August 1, 2026. Depending on experience and qualifications, the appointment will be made at either the tenure-track Assistant Professor or Lecturer level. (Contingent upon funding.)

Dalton State seeks a dedicated, student-centered faculty member who is passionate about teaching undergraduates and helping them understand the connections between the past, present, and future through meaningful learning experiences.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence, or potential for excellence, in:

* Teaching and student learning

* Supporting student success through mentoring and advising

* Research, scholarship, or creative activity - particularly those involving undergraduates

* Service to the institution and community

* Professional growth and continued learning

Teaching responsibilities include 24-27 credit hours per academic year for tenure-track faculty or 27 credit hours per academic year for lecturers. Courses may be offered during the day, evening, online, or at off-campus locations. Faculty also contribute to curriculum development, assessment of student learning, academic advising, and institutional or community service.

Preference for the first position will be given to candidates with experience teaching Early American History. For the second position, preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching General American History, American Government, or first-year seminars. The second position is contingent upon funding.

The Department of Social Sciences and History offers dynamic programs in History, Political Science, and related disciplines. Faculty in the department are committed to fostering critical thinking, cultural awareness, and civic engagement through innovative teaching and scholarship.
