Position: Assistant Professor of Science Education (Tenure Track)

Job Summary

The School of Education at Dalton State College seeks applications for a tenure‑track Assistant Professor of Science Education position beginning on August 1st, 2026. Candidates must be prepared to teach undergraduate‑level courses in Science Education. Faculty may also teach general education or freshmen experience courses.

Faculty workload at Dalton State College consists of the following five components: (1) teaching, (2) student success, (3) research/scholarship/creative activity or academic achievement, (4) professional service to the institution or community, and (5) professional growth.

Minimum annual salary: $56,500.00.

Responsibilities
  • The standard teaching load is 12 credits per semester (usually four courses in the fall and spring).
  • Actively participate and serve on committees in the college, school, and community.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Dean of the School of Education.
  • Faculty may be required to teach day, evening, or online courses.
  • Advise students using Banner/Degree Works each semester, assist with graduation applications, mentor students, and assist with career placement.
Required Qualifications
  • Earned a master’s in a science discipline (biology, chemistry, physics) with a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the subject matter.
  • At least three years of teaching as a licensed pre‑K‑12 science teacher.
  • Expertise/experience in curriculum and instruction and knowledge of general elementary/secondary education.
  • Evidence of quality service to the teaching profession and the broader community.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Evidence of successful teaching in post‑secondary educational settings.
  • Demonstrated potential of scholarly productivity.
  • Commitment to collaboration with public schools and colleagues.
  • Experience working with students similar to the population at DSC.
  • Earned Doctorate or master’s in biology or a closely related discipline.
  • Ability to teach courses in math methods at the elementary level.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to teach in face‑to‑face, hybrid, and online classrooms.
  • Willingness to accommodate a variety of learning styles and use applied learning approaches.
  • Support the DSC Vision, Mission and Values and foster an environment of diversity in culture, thought, and experience.
  • All candidates should be able to demonstrate the ability to educate and empower the DSC student population successfully.
  • Knowledge of and experience with integrating technology in teacher education.
