Job Summary

This position is responsible for providing academic advising services to Dalton State College students.

Responsibilities

Provides academic monitoring and coaching - 50%

* Advises students on appropriate course selection towards graduation requirements.

* Counsels students on all relevant areas such DSC policies and procedures, major selection, standards for scholastic achievement, transferability of coursework.

* Coach students, especially those at-risk, on goal setting, academic success skills, and utilizing appropriate academic resources.

* Deliver workshops and small group activities on issues related to academic success.

* Utilizes degree audits for advisees.

* Participates in various college academic success initiatives.

Contacts students - 30%

* Maintains and documents regular contact with advisees via multiple communication sources.

* Develops and fosters appropriate accountability for student success.

* Meets with advisees a minimum of once per semester.

Provides outreach - 10%

* Participates in new student orientation and registration activities.

* Provides outreach services for prospective students as a representative of the academic unit and of the College.

Participates within academic unit - 5%

* Collaborates with other offices to connect students to resources that facilitate student success.

* Serves as a liaison between the Advising community and faculty advisors within the academic unit.

* Participates in campus and community events related to academic success.

Assists with Institutional Effectiveness - 5%

* Utilizes a variety of technologies to appropriately assess student progression and success.

* Assists Assistant Provost/AVP for Student Success with reporting on academic advising and other student success indicators.

* Baccalaureate degree.

* One year of work experience with academic advising, student services, student affairs, career development, education/teaching (high school level or above), and/or related experience.

* Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal and assessment skills.

* Master's degree preferred.

* Knowledge of academic skills and student development issues associated with undergraduate student populations, especially those that require enhanced advising and academic skills support.
