Academic Teacher – Kid City After school Program
Schedule
(Part-Time Position) Monday–Thursday | 4:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Position Overview:
Academic Teachers provide engaging, small-group instruction in Literacy or Math for students in Grades K–5. Teachers support students' academic growth through hands-on, standards-aligned lessons while creating a positive and engaging learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver engaging Literacy or Math lessons for assigned students in Grades K–5.
- Provide instruction to small groups of 12 or fewer students.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the academic needs of students.
- Transition students safely to and from instructional sessions as needed.
- Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
- Build strong relationships with students to encourage positive behavior and engagement.
- Model professionalism and positive interactions with students, families, staff, and school personnel.
- Maintain accurate attendance and all required program documentation.
- Follow all Kid City, Dalton Public Schools, and 21st CCLC policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with site coordinators and fellow staff members to ensure high-quality programming.
Qualifications:
Certified Teachers:
- Hold a valid teaching certificate.
- One year of classroom teaching experience preferred.
Non-Certified Academic Staff:
- Currently enrolled in or have completed college-level education coursework, or
- Have at least one year of experience as a paraprofessional or instructional support staff member.
- Current Dalton Public Schools paraprofessionals may qualify for an Academic Teacher position.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with elementary-aged students in Grades K–5.
- Strong classroom management and relationship-building skills.
- Knowledge of elementary literacy and/or mathematics instruction.
- Ability to plan engaging, hands-on learning experiences.
- Strong communication, organization, and collaboration skills.
- Commitment to creating a welcoming and supportive learning environment for all students.
