The Controls Technician2 works in conjunction with the maintenance, production and engineering departments. The primary job responsibility is to support production through effective and timely equipment downtime troubleshooting. They develop and implement equipment process improvements through the use of technology and automation.
Duties and ResponsibilitiesThe duties may include, but are not limited to the following activities. Some duties may be optional on an individual basis. If there is a question about responsibilities or authorities, resolve the issue with the Director of Maintenance.
- The Controls Technician2 reports directly to the Controls Engineer or Maintenance Supervisor for the assigned facility.
- For emergency manufacturing and maintenance support the automation technician may receive direction from the director of maintenance or plant managers.
- The Controls Technician2 implements equipment and/or process improvements using PLCs, servos or variable speed drives, camera technology, robotic technology, and any other available resources.
- Daily communication and interface with suppliers is required; the position is expected to effectively team with suppliers and original equipment manufacturers and appropriately represent Tarkett.
- The Technician assists the maintenance staff in operational debugging of machine controllers, motion systems, robotics, HMIs and all other related components in a timely and efficient manner using Tarkett standard techniques and approach.
- The Controls Technician2 trains lesser‑experienced electricians and mechanics, thereby improving the overall department skills and abilities.
- The Technician assists the engineer in machine validation, both internally and at the customer’s facility while maintaining Tarkett work ethics and standards.
- The Technician communicates with the project team to ensure a constant level of project awareness.
- The Controls Technician2 works closely with the controls engineer, who is responsible for ensuring all schematics and/or backup programs of PLCs, HMIs, camera systems, etc. are current and correct.
- The Technician attends certain technical training classes as deemed necessary by the Maintenance Supervisor, Controls Engineer or Director of Maintenance, and passes this knowledge along to peers and/or electrical maintenance personnel.
- The Controls Technician2 is a self‑starter, stays focused and on task with little or no supervision.
- They possess the ability to conceptualize, design, build and implement simple to moderate control systems and manufacturing equipment.
- High school diploma or GED; or 5‑7 years related experience and/or technical training in PLCs, HMIs, VFDs and electrical controls; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Associate’s Degree in electrical/electronics engineering is a plus, but not required.
- Must be trained in and accountable for lock‑out/tag‑out policies and procedures.
