Job Summary
Operates extrusion equipment to produce rolls of plastic film. Sets up and adjusts equipment per specifications, feeds film through a series of rollers and secondary equipment to winders. Ensures proper width, gauge, length, tension, weight, and other properties; inspects for quality. Completes final packaging and labeling. Enters production data into the system.
Key Responsibilities- Operate machine to extrude thermoplastic materials and manufacture blown film according to specifications.
- Adjust controls regulating vacuum, air pressure, sizing rings, and temperature; synchronize extrusion speed with pulling rolls.
- Review production orders and gather proper resins, colorants, and other materials; stage them for the extruder using lift trucks or hoses.
- Examine extruded product for defects such as wrinkles, bubbles, and splits; adjust equipment to improve quality.
- Measure extruded articles for conformance to specifications using micrometers, calipers, and gauges; adjust speed, weight controls, or valves to obtain the specified dimensions.
- Test physical properties of the product with dimension testers and perform visual inspections.
- Reel extruded product into rolls of specified length and weight.
- Remove finished rolls from the winder; complete packaging by placing the roll(s) onto a shipping pallet using a lift table, chain hoist, or similar mechanism.
- Relocate finished pallets to a holding area using an electric pallet jack, lift truck, or similar equipment.
- Complete production paperwork documenting product testing, gauge, size, weight, and other production statistics.
- May be assigned to cut roll cores for placement on winder spindles.
- High school diploma or equivalent training.
- Minimum 2 years of manufacturing experience.
- Forklift truck operation certification required.
