Job Summary
Operates extrusion equipment to produce rolls of plastic film. Sets up and adjusts equipment per specifications, feeds film through a series of rollers and secondary equipment to winders. Ensures proper width, gauge, length, tension, weight, and other properties, inspects for quality. Completes final packaging and labeling. Enters production data in the system.
Essential Job FunctionsOperates machine to extrude thermoplastic materials and manufacture blown (packaging) film according to specifications. Adjusts controls to regulate vacuum, air pressure, sizing rings, and temperature, and synchronizes extrusion speed with pulling rolls. Reviews production order and collects required resins, colorants, and materials. Stages materials for extruder using lift truck or designated hoses. Examines extruded product for defects (wrinkles, bubbles, splits) and makes equipment adjustments to improve quality.
Measures extruded articles for conformance using micrometers, calipers, and gauges; adjusts controls to obtain specified dimensions. Tests physical properties with dimension testers and completes visual inspections. Reels product into rolls of specified length and weight. Removes finished rolls from winder and packages onto shipping pallet using lift table, chain hoist, or similar mechanism. Relocates finished pallet to holding area with electric pallet jack or lift truck.
Completes production paperwork documenting product testing, gauge, size, weight and other statistics. May be assigned to cut roll cores placed on winder spindles.
- High school diploma or equivalent training
- Minimum 2 years of manufacturing experience
- Forklift truck certification required (if operating forklift)
